KATIE JACOBY - BLUEBIRD
in december of 2019, violinist Katie Jacoby asked me to put together a video for her cover of Paul McCartney/Wings’ ‘Bluebird’. i wasn’t actually familiar with the track until hearing Katie’s rendition.
the idea was to create something elegant, simple, and quick to execute over an afternoon that Katie had in LA, so katie, myself, and co-conspirator drasko vucevic decided to head up the coast to find a remote stretch of beach along the PCH north of malibu, and we shot several takes of Katie performing the piece, all on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, and on the Zhiyun Crane 3 LAB.
a couple of aerial shots were also used, but the DJI Mavic’s quality doesn’t hold up nearly as well in the low light. but the desired effect is achieved!
sometimes it’s fun to work on a video that’s just photographically beautiful - and in this case the setting california sun provided all the beauty we would need.
colour was a joy to work with in DaVinci using the blackmagic RAW codec.
Katie is back touring with The Who (sort of - pandemic and all) and i hope this piece has served her well!
