PETE MULLER - DISSOLVE
another of the music videos i directed for Pete Muller’s DISSOLVE LP, this title track video was initially meant to be a simpler, lyric video concept. the initial plan was to intercut lyrics over the drone shots with shots of pete playing at the piano.
the vibe of the footage we captured in Santa Barbara was pretty spot-on, however, and we ended up capturing the shots of the band singing backup vocals as well as sax player John Whoolilurie performing his solo on an additional shoot day a couple of weeks later.
the video is shot on three different cameras. the RED EPIC was used to get the shots of pete at the piano and the close-ups of the keyboard. the aerial shots are a DJI Mavic Pro 1, and the remainder of the shots (band memebers, sax solo, ocean B-roll) were all shot on what was then my brand-new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. each camera was used in a specific context, so that coupled with the monochromatic colouring minimised any camera differences.
edit and post were done in DaVinci Resolve. there is also a lyric version of this video featuring exclusively shots of the beach and ocean with the lyrics tracked in to the shots - that may yet rear its head!
