UAD Culture Vulture

UAD Culture Vulture

in mid-2014, i found myself once again in cahoots with the Universal Audio folks, working on another stylish product video. this time for their new emulation of the Thermionic Culture "Culture Vulture", an impressive distortion box. our legendary talent this time was an increasingly frazzled Christian "Leggy" Langdon, and once again the UA folks had gone to extreme lengths to acquire impressive set dressings to fit the concept.

i once again used the ARRI 3-light kit consisting of the 650, 300, and 150. i also implemented our trusty fog machine for a little atmosphere, as the general creative brief was a bit horrorshow. in the traditional sense, not so much the Anthony Burgess sense. well maybe a bit. i also did a proper grade in davinci this time around, which adds to the stylised aspect quite a bit.

this was a load of fun to work on, as UA productions usually are. critical reception (inasmuch as youtube commenters can be considered critics) was divisive at best. there was a considerable amount of hate for this video, which is usually an indicator that you're at least shaking things up. as product videos go, it's definitely more on the fringe, but it's stylish and entertaining. some folks love that. some folks like a more direct, no-nonsense approach. you can't please everyone, but creativity always wins in my book. so cheers to UA!
